Last-minute shoppers still have several options for gifts and stocking stuffers, thanks to the help of local retailers.
Two ways to light up the season and the smile on a gift recipient’s face are jewelry and candles.
At Gray’s Jewelers, 2011 Mall Drive, Suite 1, partner Mike Murrah says he is known for overbuying, but that works in favor of the last-minute shopper.
Alwand Vahan sterling silver and gold bracelets are strong sellers and popular choices, he said.
Of course, the biggest standby items are diamond rings, necklaces and bracelets.
“Some form of that is always going to lead in popularity,” he said.
The classic round, brilliant cut diamond is a mainstay in the world of sparkle.
However, there are trends that usually favor a certain cut of diamond. Now, it is the oval shape that seems to be the hottest thing going, Murrah said.
But certain shaped cuts “go in and out of vogue,” he said.
The jewelry cases at Gray’s still hold a good number of dazzling, beautiful gifts.
At Labels Boutique on 2801 Robin Lane, b|happy essential oil candles are all the rage as they burn clean with no wire wick, said manager Robin Garrett. Scents include happy hemp and tangerine.
Jewelry choices abound with silver and gold open link chokers to the jewelry items made by local designers and artists like Nan & Idge.
Labels also has CBD nighttime sleep aids and CBD roll-on muscle joint relief.
Also, gift certificates for a facial at Time in a Bottle Day Spa will be the ultimate gift for someone’s self-care, Garrett said.
Penny Ryan, owner of Cannabis with Love Texarkana, located at 1103 Arkansas Blvd. Suite 1, suggests anything for health and wellness as a great gift.
Custom tea and orders are picking up in sales, she said.
“People are loving the teas and we do baked goods That is what we are wanting to be, a CBD cafe,” she said.
One of the biggest sellers in the teas is Luna, which helps with sleep.
“We also have some teas for the first of the year for detox and teas for aches and pains,” she said.
Ryan, who also has a shop in Shreveport, opened the Texarkana location just as the pandemic hit.
“People are understanding what we are about. It is not to get you high, it is about helping you with your aches and pains. There are benefits,” she says.
The Village Floral & Gifts, located at 997 N. Kings Highway, has food, candles, cards, flowers and gift books.
“The No. 1 thing at our store that people come in for is we have a huge gourmet section. We have different kinds of pickles, cheese ball spreads, wassail mix, all the things you would put out when family is coming over,” said owner Peggy Speer.
“We have a huge line of beeswax candles, which clean the air when they burn instead of putting toxins in the air. We have lots those we carry year-round,” she said.
The Village is also a distributor for Dayspring cards and gift books that make great stocking stuffers.
Flowers always make a wonderful gift, whether as centerpieces or cute arrangements, Speer said.
